President Yoweri Museveni has commissioned the Kitere Municipal Solid Waste Composite Plant in Fort Portal’s West Division and a power line to Kitere.
The Power Line to Kitere is part of the wider power supply to Fort Portal Municipality worth Shs 710 million as part of government’s power distribution program to empower small scale enterprises in peri urban areas.

The Solid Waste Plant is to cost 480 million shillings and it is jointly funded by the World Bank, NEMA and Fort Portal Municipality recycles garbage.
The garbage is collected from the municipality into organic manure suitable for agriculture and biogas and the recycle was set up last year at Kitere in the West Division.
Museveni was accompanied by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Development Irene Muloni and he was taken around the plant by officials of the Municipality led by the Mayor Asaba Ruyonga and the technocrats of the project.
The organic manure is expected to improve on the fertility of the soil that will in the end lead to increased crop yields and promote the use of biogas.
The President pledged to look into the challenges faced by the facility.
