The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has vowed to close down as many as 100 shops at Oasis Mall and Garden City along Yusuf Lule Road in Kampala after they evaded taxes over Shs2 billion.
Shops that are issued assessment are expected to either clear their obligations after seven days or come up with a payment schedule to settle the outstanding tax arrears or else face closure.
“Out of about 80 shops trading at Garden City, only about 40 of them are compliant. And nearly 60 per cent of over 100 business outlets at Oasis mall are not paying their due taxes,” Hajj Ali Siraji the URA manager for Kampala Central said in statement.
