Amuria Must Outlaw Thieving contractors -IGG

The Inspectorate of Government has directed Amuria district to blacklist contractors with bad records.

Following a 2 day on-spot monitoring exercise of NUSAF II projects in Amuria district, the office of the IGG established that several contractors with records of shoddy work are still holding and receiving multiple contract awards from the district.

These include contractors who performed poorly during the implementation of NUSAF I but are on the list of beneficiaries in the second phase of the project. Amuria holds twenty five (25) NUSAF II projects valued at over two billion shillings

However, in the implementation of the projects, most contractors did not follow contractual obligations as stipulated in the bill of quantities resulting into shoddy works, the monitors established.

One such works is the community hall in Morungatuny which is at the verge of collapsing barely two years after its construction by Green Light Technical Services, James Onying Penywii, the director of operations in the Inspectorate says.

James Onying Penywii, adds that district officials who fail to discontinue contractors who perform poorly will be prosecuted.

Charles Kurwa, the Amuria district Resident District Commissioner warns district officials against colluding with contractors to swindle government funds.
