Malaba Officials Cited In Corruption Scandals

Graft and embezzlement has engulfed the Eastern Uganda border town of Malaba with Philip Gonza Opolot, the town clerk and his deputy Samuel Baker Okalany have been interdicted from office pending the disposal of their cases before the anti corruption court.

The two officials are facing multiple cases of financial impropriety and abuse of office.

The matter comes up for judgment on 4th/02/2014 at the anti corruption court. Vitalis Oswan, the Tororo Chief administrative Officer wrote to the duo to vacate their offices on January 21, 2014. The interdiction of the officials follows a directive from the inspectorate general of government arising from criminal case number ACD-CSC 211/2011, which is before the anti corruption court in Kampala.

In the interdiction letter, Oswan says the officials will receive half pay. He also instructs them not to leave the country until the matter before court is disposed. Oswan has appointed Akaziah Masereje, the senior commercial officer Malaba to care take the office of the town clerk.

Emmanuel Osuna, the Tororo LC V chairperson insists the duo were pompous when they warned them that their days are numbered adding that, they are yet to suffer for their sins.
