The Uganda Coffee Development Authority has impounded 4 tonnes of immature coffee worth 145 million shillings in Iganga.
The coffee was impounded at Nakigo sub county March 20 on transit to Kampala aboard Fuso lorries.
The south eastern regional coffee extension officer, Uganda Coffee Development Authority, Andrew Kasumba said one person Peter Bazibu has been arrested and is to soon appear in court answer charges of destroying the quality of coffee.
Kasumba said the infiltration of immature coffee into the market has always resulted into the banning of Ugandan coffee on the international market.
He cautioned buyers to desist from purchasing immature coffee from farmers since they risk making huge losses.
Kasumba said the immature coffee which is green in colour would be ready for harvest in December this year.
He said Iganga ranks highest in the number of farmers who always harvest immature coffee.
A total of 18 people have been arrested and charged before courts of law for dealing in immature coffee in south eastern region since the start of the year.
