The Federation of Uganda Employers (FUE) has revealed that all outstanding employers in Uganda are to be recognized a move that is intended to improve the human resource ethics and practices in Uganda.
Announcing the awards on Thursday last week at the Federation’s headquarters in Namanve, Mukono district, Rosemary N. Ssenabulya the Executive Director FUE noted that the awards to recognize the best employers is meant to encourage self regulation among employers in order to maintain the best human resource practices.
“The Employer of the year awards is a commitment by the federation to promote good quality human resource practices, to ensure decent jobs, enhanced labour productivity and organizational performance.
Organised under the theme; “Employee Engagement as an organistion Performance Driver” this year’s awards are slated for May-8th-2014 at Sheraton Hotel in Kampala.
Speaking at the press briefing, Nicholas Okwir, the Chairperson of the Federation noted that this time around, the awards have been beefed up with private-public partnership with Makerere University department of Psychology where the academia will have a close interaction with employers. This has been done to bridge the skills gap and ensure that students attain the relevant skills for the job market.
Okwi said that, “According to our surveys, we realized that there are still job slots in Uganda, but employers complain that most graduates don’t have the relevant skills for the job market. It is with such partnerships that we hope to bridge these skills gap as lecturers will have a close relationship with employers.”
