Police commander Wesley Nganizi with the woman arrested for vending fake phones
Jinja road Police is holding a woman of Chinese origin for vending fake Samsung Galaxy phones.
Zeng Yanqin is currently being held at the station after she tried to con Jasper Aligawesa, the General Secretary for National Council of Sports (NCS) into buying the phone at 160,000 shillings.
Aligawesa narrates that this was the second time the Chinese were selling him the fake phones. He says that over a month ago, the same people came to his work place telling them that they had money troubles so they are selling their phones cheaply to raise air fare to go back home. He says that he bought three phones out of sympathy but in less than a week, the phones were not working.
He explains that on Tuesday he was again approached by the woman of Chinese origin near the American embassy at a petrol station with the same story. It is then that he arrested her and brought her to police.

One of the fake Samsung Galaxy phones Zeng Yanqin was vending
The Jinja road police district police commander Wesley Nganizi acknowledges that Aligawesa had made a statement earlier when he was conned. He says Zeng Yanqin is going to help them break up the racket of the people who bring in the counterfeit phones.
Nganizi says that apart from selling counterfeits, she was also working without a work permit because her passport claims she is in Uganda as a tourist.
The price of an original Samsung Galaxy phone is not less than 1.2million Uganda shillings.
Only last week, police launched an operation where several counterfeit phones worth millions were confiscated.
