Eddy Turyatemba, the Principal Bumbaire Technical Institute in Bushenyi district has reportedly gone into hiding after misappropriating government money. Turyatemba is accused of embezzling 206 million shillings, which was meant for the purchase of food, materials for practical lessons and books between August 2013 to date.
Jafaru Bassajjabalaba, the Bushenyi district public accounts committee Chairperson says that they discovered the gross abuse of funds and tasked Turyatemba to reimburse it before July 16th or face arrest. He however, says a day after they issued the directed Turyatemba vanished from his work place without trace. Bassajjabalaba says they have requested police to hunt down the principal and bring him to account.
Saul Rwampororo, the Bushenyi district Education Officer says he is not aware of disappearance of the principal, he however promised to act immediately. Turyatemba has not yet commented on his alleged disappearance from the school as he couldn’t be reached on his known cell number as it was switched off. Our reporter only found the deputy principal at the school on Tuesday, but he declined to reveal the whereabouts of his boss.
Trouble for Turyatemba started about a month ago, after more than 50 students led by their guild president Duncan Azairwe lead a procession from the institute to Bushenyi district headquarters 30 Km away to compel the district leadership to act against the principal for alleged corruption and dictatorship.
