Since the expiry of the previous board of directors’ term that ended October 1, 2013, the National Forestry Authority (NFA) had to wait until today to get a new board approved for a-three year tenure from 1st July 2014 to 1st July 2018.
According to the Minister of Information and National Guidance Rose Namayanja, the newly approved set of Chairperson Onyango Gunyalli Gersom , Tubwita Grace, Bongozya Stephen Mugumya, Langoya Council Dickson and Dr. Maggie Kigozi as members follow the expiry of the previous and were approved by cabinet today.
The National Forestry Authority is a body corporate, established under the National Forestry and Tree Planting Act to manage and develop central forest reserves.
“The board in its performance of its functions is responsible to the Minister and it advises on policy formulation, planning and ensuring that the implementation of the National Forestry Authority functions are compliant to the forestry policy, national forestry plan and tree planting Act and other relevant Government laws and policies” said Namayanja.
