Plans are underway for the launch of Stafford University.
The campus which sits on a 2 acre piece of land along Zzimwe Road Muyenga- Kisugu which is set to be officially launched this month, will run both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in subjects such as media, accounting, computing and business.
The institution’s marketing manager Ms. Gabriela Habimana said the same event will also double as an Open Day.
The first batch of students was admitted in January while the next admissions are set to take place when the academic year begins.
“This is the first university of its kind in this region and we seek to foster development through education of our young people,” Ms. Habimana said.
She revealed that many youth in Uganda are jobless because they do not have the necessary skills for employment adding that the institution will seek to develop young talents.
“We have a vision of bringing education closer to the people,” Ms. Habimana implored.
Ms. Habimana was speaking to the press when the institution held a marketing outreach in Nsambya opposite the American Embassy.
“We are very pleased to have signed this agreement with Stafford University of United Kingdom. This is an important further step in our plan to develop top quality education in Uganda and the East Africa,” she said.
Stafford University (SU) is a privately owned University licensed by the National Council for Higher Education on the 1st of October 2015 to officially carry out its operations and offers different programs ranging from certificates, diplomas and degrees with maximum flexibility that includes; day, evening and weekend sessions.
According to Ms. Habimana, in a bid to become a pivot of academic excellence, offering a fresh and intellectually thriving environment that nurtures critical and progressive thinkers and pushes pedagogical boundaries, Stafford University has a number of courses that it offers to the public.
“It is not about our students just coming to class but we are positioning ourselves as a unique university and the goal is that in three years ahead we become among the top four choices for senior six vacists and those students who will undertake our programs will have relatively wider employment opportunities and can comfortably work.
“As a new player in education sector, our programs especially the degree ones will prepare undergraduates for tasks demanding business expertise and for entry-level managerial positions worldwide in national and particularly in international companies and organisations.”
